Barça and Boca Juniors will play a match in homage to the “Pibe de oro” in Saudi Arabia

A little over a year after Maradona’s death, FC Barcelona and Boca Juniors announced a friendly match in his honor on December 14 in Saudi Arabia. “This will be the first time that the two clubs, where Diego played, will face each other in this Middle Eastern country and it will be a way to celebrate the legacy of the idol, who died on November 25, 2020,” said the Buenos Aires club.

The match for the “Maradona Cup” will take place in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, at Mrsool Park (25,000 seats). The announcement of such an event is made when the “Pibe de oro” would have been 61 years old on October 30.

The investigation is ongoing

The Argentine number 10 wore the Boca Juniors jersey twice, first in the 1981-1982 season and then in 1995, for his last two professional seasons. Maradona also played in the Blaugrana colors for two seasons, between 1982 and 1984, playing 58 games there and notably winning a Copa del Rey.

Considered one of the greatest players in football history, 1986 world champion Diego Maradona died of a heart attack on November 25, 2020, just weeks after undergoing brain surgery for a blood clot. He was 60 years old. Justice is still trying to determine if his death is the result of negligence on the part of the medical team which caused the deterioration of his health.
