Bärbel Wardetzki on the peculiarities of female narcissism

Narcissists are considered to be overly self-absorbed and extroverted. But there is also a form of personality structure that expresses itself differently. Psychotherapist Bärbel Wardetzki on the addiction to recognition – and the positive side of narcissism.

Narcissisms We see it almost everywhere these days – and it has many faces. There is the narcissistic boss who shows no consideration for his employees, the narcissistic ex-partner who just lied to you – or the mother who pushes her children to achieve top performance in order to increase their own self-worth. And then there is a form of narcissism that is often overlooked: female – or vulnerable – narcissism. In contrast to male – or grandiose – narcissism, those affected here tend to be more insecure and over-adapted.

The German psychotherapist Dr. Bärbel Wardetzki has been studying the peculiarities of this narcissistic structure for more than 30 years and has worked therapeutically with many female narcissists. In her new book, she once again addresses the topic in the context of today’s society in order to provide those affected with orientation.
