Barbara Schöneberger succeeds Guido Cantz in “Do you understand fun?”. A task that she is only too happy to take on, as she reveals in the interview.

On April 2, Barbara Schöneberger (48) moderated “Do you understand fun?” for the first time. The moderator follows in the footsteps of Guido Cantz (50), who has now found a new TV home on RTL. When the request for the popular Saturday night show came, Schöneberger didn’t have to think long. “Of course it helped that the Eurovision melody was played at the beginning of the show,” laughs the 48-year-old in an interview with the news agency spot on news.

At first, did you have any doubts as to whether you would like to moderate “Do you understand fun?” want to take over?

Barbara Schöneberger: No, I didn’t think about it at all. The nice head of entertainment at SWR came to my house, which I always invite everyone to when it gets important. I cooked well, we sat together, and after that it was actually clear that we’d do it together. And I find in the case of “Do you get fun?” you don’t really have to open an account, what speaks in favor of it, what speaks against it. Of course it helped that the Eurovision melody was played at the beginning of the show!

How did your family and those around you react to your new job?

Schöneberger: Restrained as always. They all have enough to do with themselves, but they are happy and find it wonderful. But at home it’s not as big a topic as it is in the press and with other people.

Did your predecessor Guido Cantz congratulate you and give you a few tips along the way?

Schöneberger: When it was clear that Guido was going to stop and I was then asked, I actually called Guido and we spoke on the phone. We also met at the German TV Awards. I’ve known Guido for a long time, we had the same management for years, we’re very friendly there. And he also took the next step and went to “7 days, 7 heads”. This means that we will continue to meet at all major award ceremonies.

Do you still have capacity for your other TV jobs like the “NDR Talk Show” or “Because you don’t know what’s happening” or do you have to part with one or the other format?

Schöneberger: People always imagine it all to be so time-consuming, but the fact is that I record two “Do you understand fun?” shows in one week. A live broadcast and a recording and then the whole thing again in the fall. I think anyone who works in the German entertainment industry will manage to keep a week free in the fall and in the spring for such a big show. Then we’ll do a little best-of in summer. This takes a few days of shooting. Then there are the days when we trick celebrities and non-celebrities alike, but it’s still a manageable number of days that you’re of course happy to free up for five big Saturday night shows on the first.

After Daniel Hartwich left, a moderation job also became available in the jungle camp, would that be something for you too?

Schöneberger: Of course, of course, of course, give me all the offers. I’ll take a look and get back to you as soon as possible.
