Unknown people sprayed butyric acid on the premises of an open-air theater in Lübeck. An election campaign event by the Greens with Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock was to take place there – which was canceled for security reasons.

She is the current star of the Greens: Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock. The politician’s popularity ratings have skyrocketed since she became foreign minister. Her actions in the Ukraine conflict and her unequivocal yes to arms deliveries have earned her a great deal of recognition. It should now be all the more annoying for the Schleswig-Holstein Greens that they had to cancel a planned election campaign event on Saturday afternoon in Lübeck with Baerbock: Reason: unknown persons sprayed butyric acid on the premises of the open-air stage.

The cancellation was ultimately due to security concerns, said a police spokeswoman. An event planned for the evening with Baerbock in Ahrensburg in the Stormarn district should take place as planned. A new state parliament will be elected in Schleswig-Holstein on May 8th.

Nobody gets hurt

Green employees noticed a pungent odor while preparing the stage in the morning and called the fire brigade. As a spokesman for the state association of the Greens in Schleswig-Holstein announced, nobody was injured. The police had previously spoken of five people who complained of mild respiratory irritation and were treated on site.

The party sharply condemned the incident: “No such attack will change our political positions; on the contrary, it makes it clear once again that individuals are not concerned with argumentative arguments,” it said in a statement. The Lübeck cultural scene is suffering, and it is hoped that the open-air stage can be resumed quickly.
