Election programs in check: Out of this world culture

Instruction, conversion and peace, but hurry up: On the rhetoric in the European election programme of the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW).

The composer Erik Satie wrote that he was born too young in an ancient time. He saw this difference as an encouragement to break with musical conventions or turn them on their head so that they would finally gain a different feeling of lightness and weight. In form, and somehow also in wording, the BSW’s election program follows, obviously without suspecting it, the form of Satie’s composition “Bureaucratic Sonatina” from 1917, the year of the October Revolution. “Being outside” (from the conventions) shaped Satie’s inner compositional life. The old world was not yet as in ruins as it would have wished.
