Numerous people were injured in a serious accident between two light rail vehicles in Stuttgart. A passenger needs to be resuscitated.

In the event of an accident between two light rail vehicles,… Stuttgart, several people were injured, some critically. A 26-year-old woman who was a passenger on one of the trains was resuscitated, a fire department spokesman said. A 47-year-old female tram driver was seriously injured and had to be freed by the fire department using heavy technical equipment. The driver’s tram had been badly deformed at the front. The 39-year-old driver of the other tram was also slightly injured.

In total there were 15 injuries. The fire brigade spokesman classified nine people as “moderately seriously injured”. They were found by rescue workers lying and sitting on the street. Four other people sought medical treatment on their own. A total of eleven injured people were transported to surrounding hospitals.

According to the fire department, it was initially assumed that the two light rail vehicles had collided head-on on the same track. According to recent police findings, however, it was a rear-end collision. According to a police spokesman, the front tram on the U9 line had stopped on the open road. A light rail line on the U4 running behind it hit the stationary U9. Why the U9 had stopped must now be clarified by an expert, the spokesman continued.

The accident occurred around 10 a.m. in the Wangen district of Stuttgart. Numerous emergency calls were received. A large number of firefighters and rescue workers were on site. A total of 100 forces were deployed.
