Bad Wiessee: Trouble at the opening on the Saurüsselalm – Bavaria

The critics were already excited by a tough marketing campaign at the opening – now they see their suspicions confirmed that there is already another event location within walking distance and a shuttle bus distance to the Tegernsee.

Alpine farming is a rural production method in the mountains, and that is exactly why the Söllbachaualm stood for the longest time on a very lonely meadow in the hinterland of Bad Wiessee. Recently, however, the hut is no longer used for alpine farming, but is one. It opened last week, and because the wording is important in gastronomy, the whole thing was first announced as an “opening” and secondly, the Alm – in English by the way “mountain pasture” or “alp” – is now no longer Söllbachau – but Saurüsselalm.

The Tegernseer Tal protection association and the association for the protection of the mountain world have already been excited about this tough marketing, and with the opening they now see their suspicion that they were not setting up a barren cheese sandwich counter for mountaineers, but an event location in Walking and shuttle bus distance to Tegernsee.

Events in the form of “hut evenings” should only take place there once a week, plus a maximum of 15 extra events per year for private parties. The municipality of Bad Wiessee has contractually secured a daily opening and an offer of typical alpine dishes for their approval of the renovation, which was then also approved by the Miesbach district office. In terms of building law, both had to assume that the hut was “objectively necessary” for catering to numerous hikers and mountain bikers.

But precisely that, as Bavaria’s building ministry has now replied to a joint letter of complaint from the valley and mountain conservationists, has “not yet become sufficiently clear”. Before the opening, it could hardly have been clear, because there are now three wide access roads leading to the Alm, some of which have a questionable approval status. In the end, however, not even a hiking trail was designated.

But maybe that’s a kind of problem like with the quail hen and the quail egg, which is served there with the typical mountain tartare: What will have come first at some point, the gastronomic event alp or its many guests? Because even if all the possible guests who are required for the building permit were not there beforehand: Now they can come.
