Bach Festival Leipzig: Sting comes out as fan culture

One has to imagine Michael Maul as a sporty, agile, mentally disciplined, flexible and, for that very reason, incredibly good-humoured person who gets just as euphoric when he encounters historical sheet music as he does when he encounters lively contemporaries. His unwavering positivity stems from the fact that he believes everyone is a fan of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, even if some don’t realize that. His task as musicologist and director of the Leipzig Bach Festival is to encourage some in their belief in Bach and to bring others one step closer to happiness in a friendly but determined manner. The numbers prove him right.
