Maxim Lyutyi wanted his child to feed only on light. He forced the mother not to breastfeed her baby. The little cosmos survived the ordeal for a month.
Maxim Lyutyi, 44, had very special plans for his newborn life. Lyutyi is vegan and promotes raw food. His child, the little cosmos, was supposed to go one step further, it was supposed to feed only on light. Kosmos only survived his father’s plan for a month. When the child came to a clinic, he only weighed 1.3 kilograms. The doctors couldn’t help him anymore. Kosmos died of “pneumonia and emaciation.”
Cult of light food
The idea of living solely on light sounds crazy – but this madness is not limited to Maxim Lyutyi. It is distributed in books and on the Internet. The followers of the cult promise a special purity if conventional food is stopped. The Russian father now faces up to eight years in prison and a fine for “intentionally serious Assault”. In a final court appearance before the verdict was announced in Sochi, he admitted his guilt after previously wanting to blame everything on his partner.
Mother lived like a slave
The trial gave insight into an abusive relationship and the violence that Maxim Lyutyi had over his partner Oxana Mironova, 34. The court heard that Lyutyi wanted to raise the newborn on prana eating – a diet in which people go without food and water for long periods and only “feed on the sun.”
Oxana’s mother Galina accused Lyutyi of running a “cult.” She also confirmed that Lyutyi stopped her daughter from breastfeeding the child. “I was against my daughter joining this cult,” she said. The child was an experiment for the food influencer. “He wanted to experiment with the child, feed him only the sun and then let others know that you can eat like that.”
“I told her that Maxim was crazy, but she didn’t listen to me.”
“Oxana lived there like a guinea pig. Every time she became colder towards me… She was his slave.”
Oxana’s cousin Olesya Nikolayeva said: “He forced her not to feed the baby. Oxana secretly tried to breastfeed the baby but was very afraid of Maxim. How would it be possible to feed the baby with sunlight?”
Minor punishment for the mother
When the couple finally took the emaciated child to a doctor, the malnourished baby could not be saved. The mother, Oxana Mironova, was sentenced to two years of “educational work,” which means she doesn’t have to go to prison. The court found that she also had to bear some of the responsibility for not helping Kosmos.
During the trial it also emerged that the “vegan” Lyutyi did not follow his own rules and liked to distort meat himself.
