B85 near Cham: one dead after an accident with a wrong-way driver – Bavaria

In the serious collision near Cham, a 46-year-old dies and four other people are injured. It is still unclear why a 37-year-old was on the wrong track.

A wrong-way driver caused a serious accident in the Upper Palatinate, in which a 46-year-old died. Four other people were seriously injured, the police said on Sunday night. The car of the 37-year-old wrong-way driver collided head-on with the car of a 42-year-old man on the federal highway 85 near the district town of Cham on Saturday evening. The road has two lanes in each direction.

According to the information, the wrong-way driver was traveling alone, and four people were in the other car – including the 46-year-old, who died at the scene of the accident. Ambulances took the injured to hospitals. After the accident, the road in the direction of Roding was closed for about three and a half hours due to the recovery and rescue work.

It was initially unclear why the car had entered the wrong way on the B85. The police are now looking for motorists who may also have been endangered by the wrong-way driver.
