Every year, the Austrian newspaper “Kurier” awards prizes to the most popular TV and film actors. This time, among others, a German influencer and an East Frisian won.

Established and new stars from Germany have cleared at the Vienna “Romy” award ceremony for the most popular TV and film actors. Otto Waalkes (74) was awarded the platinum “Romy” for his life’s work on Saturday evening. “I thought I’d get “Romy” for Austria’s most popular Piefke,” said the comedian with feigned disappointment. Anke Engelke (57) won the audience vote in the female film category.

The German influencer Julia Beautx was honored as a female acting discovery. The 23-year-old social media star accepted the statuette named after Romy Schneider for the leading role in the ZDF three-part series “Yesterday we were still children”. “Maybe some people know that I got into acting through YouTube, which was a huge opportunity for me, but at the same time made it a bit difficult for me because I had to deal with a lot of prejudice,” said Beautx.

The Berliner Jella Haase (30) was chosen as the most popular series actress for her leading role in the GDR revenge thriller “Kleo” (Netflix). Joko Winterscheidt (44) and Klaas Heufer-Umlauf (39), who are best known as a duo, got the most votes as show moderators.

Oscar winner Brendan Fraser (54) was given an international special “Romy” shortly before the theatrical release of his film “The Whale”. The Canadian-American actor spoke at the gala about the Austrian ancestors in his family tree and received great cheers.

The “Romy” prizes are awarded by the daily newspaper “Kurier”.
