Oscar harbinger: US association chooses ten best films of 2023
The American Film Institute’s annual selection is seen as a harbinger of the later Academy Awards. Favorites include the dramas “Killers of the Flower Moon” and “Oppenheimer.”
The comedy “Barbie”, the satire “American Fiction” and the fantasy film “Poor Things” are also among the top candidates, as the association announced. The filmmakers will be honored at an awards ceremony on January 12th.
Other AFI favorites include the independent romance “Past Lives,” the tragicomedy “The Holdovers” and the animated adventure “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.”
The annual selection by film experts and critics is seen as a harbinger of the later Oscar awards. Selected AFI films often make it among the Oscar contenders for Best Film.
