The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum, The Tin Drum, Homo Faber – Volker Schlöndorff and his films enjoy world fame as a director and producer. In Schwerin he received another award.

The Oscar winner Volker Schlöndorff will be awarded the honorary “Golden Ox” award at the 33rd MV Film Art Festival for his “outstanding contribution to film art”. This was announced by the organizers of the festival in Schwerin.

Volker Schlöndorff helped write almost six decades of German and international film history, said the artistic director of the MV Film Art Festival, Volker Kufahl. We are proud to be able to honor Schlöndorff. “His extensive film work, many of which have now become classics, shows a humanist committed to the values ​​of the Enlightenment.”

Schlöndorff will receive the award on May 4th from Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) in the Mecklenburg State Theater in Schwerin. Some of Schlöndorff’s greatest successes will be presented in a homage during the MV Film Art Festival from April 30 to May 5, 2024, including “The Young Törless” (1966), “The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum” (1975), the Oscar-winning work ” “The Tin Drum” (1979), “Homo Faber” (1990), “The Silence After the Shot” (2000) and “Return to Montauk” (2017).

Schlöndorff made more than 30 films in his 60 years of filmmaking and worked with acting greats such as Faye Dunaway, Dustin Hoffmann, John Malkovich, Robert Duvall, Woody Harrelson, Julie Delpy, Alain Delon, Bruno Ganz, Matthias Habich, Nina Hoss and Holly Hunter , Ulrich Matthes and Stellan Skarsgård.

The previous honorary prize winners of the MV Film Art Festival include Hanna Schygulla, Senta Berger, Matthias Habich, Mario Adorf, Katharina Thalbach and Otto Sander. Corinna Harfouch most recently received the honor in 2023.
