The Italian actor has starred in numerous hit movies on the big screen. He played secret agent René Mathis in two well-known James Bond films.

Italian film legend Giancarlo Giannini has been immortalized on Hollywood’s “Walk of Fame”. The 80-year-old actor unveiled the 2752nd plaque on the famous sidewalk. “I like this star very much,” beamed Giannini in his acceptance speech. Here he is surrounded by many colleagues and friends who have already received this honor.

breakthrough in the 1970s

He remembered the director Lina Wertmüller, who died in 2021, who “created” him. The Roman had her breakthrough in the 1970s with a series of films starring Giannini, including “Love and Anarchy” and “Seven Beauties”. Giannini starred in Luchino Visconti’s “The Innocence”, Rainer Werner Fassbinder got him in front of the camera in 1980 alongside Hanna Schygulla for “Lili Marleen”.

As guest speakers at the ceremony, Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli paid tribute to the actor. Giannini played the secret agent René Mathis in the two James Bond films “Casino Royale” (2006) and “Quantum of Solace” (2008).
