The well-known composer for film music, Hans Zimmer, has a good chance of winning an Oscar. He has landed on a shortlist twice.

The German composer Hans Zimmer (64) advanced in the Oscar race.

With his compositions for the science fiction drama “Dune” and for the Bond film “No Time to Die”, the musician made it onto a shortlist of fifteen candidates, like the Oscar Academy in Beverly Hills on Tuesday afternoon (local time ) announced.

Among others, composers Jonny Greenwood (“The Power of the Dog”), Alexandre Desplat (“French Dispatch”) and Germaine Franco (“Encanto”) are in the running with Zimmer. In the end, five candidates are determined. Oscar nominations across all categories for the 94th Academy Awards will be announced on February 8th. The award is due to take place on March 27th.

Zimmer was last in the Oscar finals in 2018. Born in Frankfurt, the film music for Christopher Nolan’s war drama “Dunkirk” received his eleventh nomination. In 1995 Zimmer received the Oscar for “The Lion King”. He has lived in the USA for decades and is one of the most successful composers in the cinema industry.
