After several days of searching, a German snowboarder has been found dead in a ski resort in Austria. The man’s colleagues informed the police after the 44-year-old failed to show up for an appointment.

A missing person report was only filed a few days after the man’s disappearance, the Vorarlberg police said on Friday. Accordingly, colleagues of the German, who is said to have his residence in Dornbirn, Austria, informed the officials when the man did not show up for an appointment. At that time, however, the police had no information about the 44-year-old’s whereabouts, it was said.

Snowboarder probably died of hypothermia

It was only last Tuesday (February 6th) that a parking lot operator in the Bödele ski area noticed the man’s vehicle. However, a large-scale search in the winter sports area, in which, according to police reports, a service dog unit was also involved, was initially unsuccessful. The police said that the survey of hotel operators and holiday home owners initially did not provide any new clues as to the whereabouts of the winter sports enthusiast.

It was only a further search carried out two days later that brought sad certainty. Accordingly, rescue workers found the 44-year-old’s body in pathless terrain in the community of Schwarzenberg. The police assume that the snowboarder got lost in the ski area and died of hypothermia.
