Australia: wedding guests crash with bus – ten dead | News

According to police and media reports, ten people were killed in Canberra, Australia, on Monday night after a bus with around 40 wedding guests drove into a roundabout and crashed onto the side. This is reported by Australian police and media reports.

According to a police spokeswoman, 25 injured people were taken to the hospital by helicopter and ambulance. It is to be feared that there are more victims under the bus.

The 58-year-old bus driver was arrested. The police spokeswoman said he was being investigated on the basis of concrete evidence. She did not give any further details. The accident happened shortly after 11:30 p.m. (local time) in foggy weather in the small town of Greta. The bus fell on its side at a roundabout for reasons that are still unclear.

Australian media reported the guests had previously attended a wedding at the Wandin Estate winery. A guest told Seven News it was a beautiful day and a fairytale wedding. Jay Suvaal, mayor of the neighboring town of Cessnock, said the crash was “really horrific”.

“We’re a major wedding and tourist destination in the Hunter Valley, so there will be people from across the state and across the country who have been to those areas,” he told Network Nine. “I think it will send shockwaves through to the general public.”

“To have a happy day end with such a devastating loss is terrible,” Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese wrote on Twitter. The sympathy of all Australians applies to the bereaved of “this cruel bus tragedy”.

Greta is located in the heart of the Hunter Valley wine region, a scenic area teeming with vineyards and restaurants. It is the first wine region to be established in Australia.
