Augsburg: suspended sentence for 20-year-olds after riots – Bavaria

Less than five months after rioting on a party mile in Augsburg, in which several police officers were injured, a suspected ringleader was sentenced to a two-year suspended prison sentence. According to a spokesman, the Augsburg district court ordered 120 social hours and a continuation of drug therapy as probation conditions for the 20-year-old on Friday. Since the prosecution and defense waived an appeal, the judgment is final.

The then 19-year-old was arrested less than a week after the riots in Augsburger Maximilianstrasse in June and has been in custody ever since. According to the district court, he was released from custody with the judgment on Friday. He had admitted his involvement in the riot in court.

The 20-year-old was charged, among other things, with attempted dangerous bodily harm and assaulting law enforcement officers. According to the prosecution, he threw several bottles at police officers and a rod at a passerby during the riot after a drug control. He also insulted the officers and incited others against the police.

According to the police, around 1,500 people gathered on the party mile on the night of June 20. As a result, there were attacks on rescue services and police officers. Around 200 bottles were thrown from the crowd at the officers, 15 police officers were therefore slightly injured during the operation.
