The different ways to install a bathtub faucet
It is possible to install your bathtub faucet in 3 different ways. It will depend, above all, on your tastes and desires, but also on your needs.
- You can thus install your faucet directly on the bathtub, taking into account the shape and dimensions of the bathtub. You can then install the faucet at one end, but also on one side. Make sure, however, that the tap does not interfere with getting in or out of the tub. If you have opted for an acrylic tub, this can be easily drilled to allow the faucet to be installed.
- Another very widely used solution is to fix the tap on the wall. Again, you can choose the location of the faucet at your convenience.
- Finally, the last option is to install your tap on the floor. This solution is intended for freestanding bathtubs. It will then be necessary to install the water inlets and outlets accordingly.
The different types of bathtubs
To know at what height to install your bathtub faucet, as we have seen, it will certainly depend on the location where you want to have it, but also on the bathtub model.
- We thus find rectangular baths whose length and width vary and can be chosen according to the space you have available.
- Freestanding bathtubs or “clogs” can be placed in smaller spaces or chosen for their very particular look. The installation of the faucet must be done accordingly.
- It is also possible to turn to a corner bathtub which allows for a more spacious relaxation area.
- Finally, the balneotherapy bathtub requires a large space and its installation is more complex.
For each model, there are one or more solutions to install the faucet.
Criteria for determining where to install the tub faucet system
Depending on whether you want to install your bathtub faucet on it or on the wall, before you make your decision, there are some points you should consider.
Installation on the bathtub:
- if you want to install the faucet directly on the tub, it is necessary to make sure that the width of the edge is sufficient to accommodate it and that the shape of the tub allows it;
- do not forget either that depending on the material of your bathtub, the job will be more or less complicated. For example, if the tub is made of cast iron, it will be much more difficult to puncture.
Wall installation:
- If you choose to put the faucet on the wall, make sure that the water will flow into the tub and therefore that the faucet will advance sufficiently.
The installation height of a bathtub faucet
In general, a bathtub faucet should be installed at a height of 75 cm above the floor. This height takes into account the average height of a bathtub which is between 54 and 58 cm.
This height will have to be adapted according to your installation.
- Installing your bathtub faucet on the wall: to know exactly the height at which to install it, know that it suffices to reserve a space of about 10 cm between the top of your bathtub and the faucet. The center distance, that is to say the distance between the hot and cold water inlet, must be 15 cm.
- Installing the tap on the bathtub: you do not have to ask yourself any height questions.
- Installation on the floor: it is the same as for installation on the bathtub, you will simply have to make sure to choose a sufficiently high bathtub model.
