At least five dead in bus accident on highway

At least five people died in the accident of a bus that left the highway on Wednesday morning near Leipzig, in eastern Germany, police told AFP. “The bus left the road and overturned,” according to the same source which also reported more than a dozen injuries among the bus passengers. The accident occurred around 9:45 a.m. local time (08:45 GMT).

“The coach, which left Berlin for Zurich (Switzerland), had 53 travelers and two drivers on board,” the German company Flixbus which operated the vehicle told AFP. “The exact circumstances of the accident are not yet known,” she continued, in her email to AFP, assuring “to cooperate with the authorities and the emergency services”. Photos released to the media showed the vehicle lying on its side near a line of trees.
