No official report was provided by the authorities, but according to NBC News And Fox News, there are at least 22 dead, and between 50 and 60 injured. It is unclear how many were hit by bullets. The shooter, on the run, is actively sought.

Police in Lewiston, a town of 37,000 residents, appealed for witnesses and released three photos of the suspect, a white man armed with a semi-automatic rifle equipped with a telescopic sight, wearing blue cargo pants and in a brown sweatshirt, which appears to be between 30 and 40 years old.

He notably opened fire in a bowling alley, a bar-restaurant and in a Walmart distribution center. Lewiston City Hall called on residents to stay sheltered at home. The White House indicated that Joe Biden had been briefed and was monitoring developments in the situation. The Boston FBI notably offered its support.
