“Ask Angela”, the system against street harassment deployed throughout the city

“His aggressive words paralyze you? Walk into a store and ask for Angela. » After Reims, Amiens and even Nîmes, Lyon will deploy the “Angela” system, which aims to fight against street harassment, to all neighborhoods after two years of experimentation in the 7th arrondissement. Since 2021, around thirty victims have been able to use this coded message to find shelter, in the 51 partner establishments, when they felt in danger.

The town hall then announced this Thursday extend this measure to the city’s nine districts in order to “weave a large network of safe and supportive places capable of welcoming and supporting anyone experiencing street harassment”.

Two shopping centers involved in the “Angela” system

The city has already indicated that the Part-Dieu and Confluence shopping centers are among the new members of the system, i.e. nearly 370 brands which could join the fight against sexist outrages and the feeling of insecurity.

These partner establishments, recognizable by a sticker affixed to their window, then undertake to “secure and take care of the person”, specifies the community. In total, 6,200 people will be trained to provide initial reception and direct the victim to existing systems.
