“Typewritings” – that’s what Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt called the peculiar graphics that she typed with the typewriter. She applied the writing to the picture artfully and precisely. Sometimes she let the letters and special characters dance in formations. Then again she put them together to form densely woven drawing carpets, geometric bodies, waves, leaf shapes or modernistic, angular-looking font architectures. Her art was influenced by mail art, conceptual art, concrete poetry, Fluxus, environmental and peace movements. The artist, who was born in 1932 in Wurzen, Saxony, produced around 600 to 800 such sheets between 1972 and 1990.
