Art historian Alexander Perrig has died: Michelangelo’s best friend – culture

He was Michelangelo’s friend, his best in this and the last century. For around seven decades, the art historian Alexander Perrig has studied – by no means exclusively, but repeatedly – the works of the Renaissance man. He knew exactly where the artist pressed the pencil firmly into the page and where he just gently stroked it. He knew all the drawings by heart, penetrated them visually, intellectually, anatomically and emotionally like no other, and he also sensed what did not fit the Renaissance artist, not his hand and not his way of thinking when drawing.
