Arrested with three tonnes of fruit and vegetables intended for street sales

To counter the growing phenomenon of fruits and vegetables being sold on the street in Paris, often at the exit of metro entrances, the national police have gone on the offensive. At the end of last week, seven sellers were arrested and taken into custody in the 14th arrondissement.

They were caught red-handed unloading a truck full of goods. In total, no less than 2.8 tonnes of various fruits and vegetables were seized, reports The Parisian.

Last week, Paris City Hall and the police headquarters announced that they wanted intensify controls against street sales in the capital. Leaflets were distributed to pedestrians to make them aware of the illegality and dangerousness of these sales. The authorities cite unfair competition for small businesses, counterfeiting, a health risk, and even exploitation of human beings.
