An employee of the AfD’s top candidate Krah is said to have spied for the Chinese secret service. An investigating judge has now executed an arrest warrant against Jian G., the Federal Prosecutor’s Office announced.
The employee of AfD MEP Maximilian Krah, who was arrested on suspicion of spying for China, is in custody. An investigating judge at the Federal Court of Justice executed the arrest warrant on Wednesday night, said a spokeswoman for the Federal Prosecutor’s Office in Karlsruhe.
The accusation is that he acted as an agent for a foreign secret service in a particularly serious case. According to the Federal Prosecutor General (GBA), the arrested Jian G. is said to have passed on information from the EU Parliament. If the allegations prove to be true, this would result in the immediate termination of the employment relationship.
The accused’s apartments were searched
According to the Federal Prosecutor’s Office, the employee was arrested by the Saxony State Criminal Police Office on Monday in Dresden. The accused’s apartments were therefore searched.
Krah explained that he had learned about his employee’s arrest from the press. He doesn’t have any further information. Krah is a member of the committees on international trade, but also on the subcommittees on human rights and security and defense, and he is also part of the delegation for relations with the USA. The AfD is entering the European election campaign with him as the top candidate.

Jian G. probably worked for China’s secret service
The German citizen G. is said to be an employee of a Chinese secret service. He is said to have worked for Krah since 2019. In January of this year, according to the Federal Prosecutor General, he is said to have repeatedly passed on information about negotiations and decisions in the European Parliament. He also spied on Chinese opposition members in Germany for the intelligence service.
China has so far clearly rejected the espionage allegations. The accusations were intended to “slander and suppress China” and were aimed at “destroying the atmosphere of cooperation between China and Europe,” said Wang Wenbin, spokesman for the Foreign Ministry in Beijing, on Tuesday.
