A pileup with 10 vehicles took place this Sunday, January 21 on the A16 near Bettencourt-Saint-Ouen in the Somme. Three people are in absolute emergency. Details.
The accident took place around 6:15 a.m., this Sunday, January 21, 2024. A pileup involving 10 vehicles (1 heavy goods vehicle and 9 cars) occurred on the A 16 motorway, in the Boulogne-Paris direction at kilometer point 147, in the commune of Bettencourt-Saint-Ouen, in the Somme.
The first report provided by the prefecture shows 24 injured. According to our information, three people are in absolute emergency and were airlifted to the Amiens University Hospital, 12 others are in relative emergency.

In the morning, emergency services were still on site, as were motorists stuck in traffic jams. Some people had to wait several hours: “We’ve been here for four hours. We were going on vacation. We missed our plane at Roissy so it’s true that the vacation isn’t off to a good start. But we are here, we are alive. It is necessary to relativize.”

The departmental fire and rescue service, the SAMU and the gendarmerie are mobilized to take care of the victims and secure the accident area. After a diversion was put in place in the morning, traffic on the A16 was able to resume around 12 p.m.
According to the first elements of the investigation, black ice could be the cause of this pileup.
