Are smaller bronchi the reason for frequent COPD in women? – Knowledge

Lung diseases are like heart attacks – they are considered to be typical diseases of men. This is also due to the fact that the proportion of men among smokers used to be much larger and it still is overall. Doctors therefore do not expect lung disease in women. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a similarly frequent cause of death for women as for men; recent figures from the USA even suggest that women are affected somewhat more often. Women are clearly over-represented in the group of lung patients who develop the disease early although they have never smoked.
