Another film about animal suffering as a statement against meat consumption? David Spaeth doesn’t make it that easy. The documentary filmmaker from Munich, who was awarded a Grimme Prize, is interested in the philosophical path: He worked on “We and the Animals” for four years, getting very close to people who love animals and kill animals: head butchers, a young trainee, Battle course participants. It makes palpable the inner conflicts that almost everyone who eats meat faces. “A slaughterhouse melodrama” is the subtitle of the documentary; It will have its TV premiere on Monday, March 11th at 11:35 p.m. on ARD (available afterwards in the media library). The conversation with Spaeth, born in 1975, also addresses the question of whether documentaries can change lives.
