Antibiotics: Jonas Kaufmann has to cancel the festival song recital – Bavaria

“The voice is fine, but I can feel that my body has not yet recovered from the strong after-effects of the antibiotics and still needs rest,” is how Jonas Kaufmann explains his certainly understandable decision to cancel the festival song recital scheduled for Tuesday, July 25th at the Bavarian State Opera.

As is well known, Kaufmann had to be treated for a multi-resistant germ that was only recently discovered during investigations and has been causing him problems for some time. After he had to cancel his appearance at the Regensburg Castle Festival last week without replacement, it was also to be expected in Munich. But there will now be a song recital in the National Theater, and tenor colleague Piotr Beczała will step in for Kaufmann at short notice. One thing remains constant: Helmut Deutsch is sitting at the piano, and the program includes works by Dvorák, Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky. Tickets remain valid, but can also be cancelled.

And then there is this good news for all Kaufmann fans: The postponed recital will be made up for on July 11, 2024. In addition, in April 2024, Kaufmann will appear as Radamès in “Aida” and will take on the role of Mario Cavaradossi in the new production of “Tosca” at the next opera festival.
