Anti-Semitism: “The biggest mistake is to avoid the topic” – Munich

75 years ago, the first society for Christian-Jewish cooperation in Germany was founded in Munich. Andreas Renz is one of the board members. A conversation about prejudice, hatred of Jews and friendship.

The first Society for Christian-Jewish Cooperation (GCJZ) in Germany was founded in Munich City Hall in July 1948 – there are now more than 80 across Germany. The 20 Protestant, Catholic and Jewish founding members from the very beginning wanted to take new, common paths based on the “experience of the National Socialist dictatorship and the Shoah,” write the current board members of the GCJZ in their commemorative publication on the 75th anniversary. Andreas Renz, 53, who has a doctorate in Catholic theology and religious studies, is one of them. Since 2018 he has been involved in the association, which co-organizes contemporary witness conversations, discussions, readings and concerts.
