The mother goose had built her nest on the tower of a former bishop’s residence, but her young had slipped on the roof and fallen into a drainpipe. The fire department could help.

The On Saturday, the fire brigade freed eight goslings from an awkward situation at the historic Johannisburg Castle in Aschaffenburg, Lower Franconia. The young animals slipped about 22 meters into a rainwater pipe in the castle and could not get out. The mother had built her nest on a tower of the former bishop’s residence, but her young had slipped away on the roof. An employee of the castle noticed the chicks in distress in the morning and called the fire brigade.

The emergency services were able to get the chicks out of the pipe by hand and collect them in a box. The mother goose watched the rescue operation from a tower. After the fire brigade released the chicks in the castle park, the mother flew over and waddled away with her unharmed offspring.
