With more than 1.3 million visitors, the zoo is one of the most visited attractions in Prague. Now there is one more cute animal to see there.

Just a few months after the birth of little Mobi, the Prague Zoo can once again celebrate sweet offspring Gorillas are happy. The 30-year-old female gorilla Kijivu gave birth to a child. “Yes, it’s true, Mobi has got a sibling,” wrote zoo director Miroslav Bobek on the X platform.

According to the zoo, the father of the offspring is once again Kisumu, who was born in Munich’s Hellabrunn Zoo in 1997 and came to the Czech capital in September 2022 after a stopover in Austria. He had his daughter Mobi in January with ten-year-old Duni.

The gender of the new baby gorilla is still unknown. The Gorilla Pavilion, the Dja Reserve, remains open to visitors to the zoo. Taking photos with cameras and large lenses is prohibited in order not to disturb the great apes. With more than 1.3 million visitors last year, the zoo is one of the most visited attractions in Prague.

Western lowland gorillas are critically endangered, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) Red List. The number of animals in the wild is declining. In nature, this gorilla species lives in the rainforests and swamps of Central Africa.
