Nice that something is finally happening. That’s what everyone will think who doesn’t care about the fate of millions of animals that are painfully fattened and slaughtered in Germany every year. Agriculture Minister Cem Özdemir (Greens) plans to introduce a mandatory label for keeping fattening animals and to show this on the packaging. For some, this raises hopes of an end to the phlegmatic agricultural policy in animal husbandry – just in time for the German Farmers’ Day, which begins this Tuesday in Lübeck.
