It’s the big day in Angers! After more than three years of work and trials, the two new tram lines (lines B and C) officially come into service this Saturday. Thirteen years after the first historic line (line A), Angevins will be able to cross the city from east to west aboard a tram that will run through 19 new stations, i.e. the equivalent of 10 km of additional route. The two new lines, which intersect in the city center (Molière station), will notably connect the university to the popular Monplaisir and Roseraie districts.
“Every day, 72,000 people will now be able to travel safely and peacefully thanks to this fluid and low-carbon mode of travel. Many Angevins now have this ease of travel, less than 500 meters from home! It is a source of great pride for our city,” rejoices Jean-Marc Verchère, Mayor of Angers and President of Angers Loire Métropole.
If some cities today prefer to turn to buses with a high level of service, which are less expensive, this investment of 285 million euros (including 38 million in subsidies from the region, Europe and the State) is still relevant. , estimates the metropolis, whose objective is to “completely review mobility in the city and in the agglomeration”. The new transport network, named Irigoalso offers enhanced bus services.
