On Friday, national cinema is in the spotlight. The 48th Césars ceremony will reward the best French films released in 2022. The 4,705 members of the Academy had one month to vote and decide between the nominated works in 24 categories. Special mention for The Innocent of Louis Garrel, who totals eleven nominations, but also The Night of 12 by Dominik Moll (ten nominations), In body by Cédric Klapisch (nine nominations) or even pacification by Pierre-Olivier Bardet (nine nominations).
However, this ceremony is far from unanimous. The Césars are often criticized for a certain elitism, biases in the choice of films selected, or even for systematically excluding mainstream films. The absence of women among the nominations is also a recurring subject, so much so that, this year, the EELV deputy Marie-Charlotte Garin proposed the creation of the “Cleopatras” of cinema.
