An MP proposes a “revocatory referendum” on his mandate… and will resign depending on the result

Will the second constituency of Bas-Rhin soon change deputies? The story is not there yet. But the current MP in place, Emmanuel Fernandes (LFI), announced this Friday that he was launching “a consultation with a view to a recall referendum”.

“I committed during the period between the two rounds of the legislative elections to submit to a recall referendum. I am therefore organizing this revocatory referendum, in an unprecedented manner in terms of the means and its scale, which will decide the future of my mandate as deputy for the second constituency of Bas-Rhin”, he wrote in a press release, he who is also explained on his Twitter account.

Clearly, it would already be necessary for “10% of the inhabitants of the second constituency, aged over 16, to express the wish for a recall referendum” for the famous vote to be organized. Then, if it takes place, a quarter of the opinions expressed will be necessary for the vote to be validated. Then a majority would decide their place… “If 25% of the inhabitants of the constituency over 16 years old participate and vote against my mandate, I will resign and will not stand again in the by-election which will follow my resignation”, he announces again.

Several voting possibilities

First step therefore, call the “revocatory referendum”, the flagship measure of candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon in 2017. To do this, it is possible to download the form from the Emmanuel Fernandes website, then send it to the justice commissioner. Cyrielle Planche. Either by post (Associate Justice Commissioners, 199 Route d’Oberhausbergen – BP 21029 67031 Strasbourg Cedex 2) or by email ([email protected]).

Perhaps simpler: everyone can place it in a sealed ballot box on Saturday January 27, at the Neudorf market square; Monday February 5, Place de l’Esplanade; Thursday February 15, Place de l’Ile-de-France, still in Strasbourg; finally on Saturday February 24, Illiad course in Illkirch-Graffenstaden. The only conditions to participate: be over 16 years old, therefore, and present proof of identity and address.

“The recall referendum was designed to allow permanent control by the people over their representatives, it renews the contract between voters and elected officials, too often mistreated by the presidential minority,” writes the deputy for the 2nd constituency of Bas-Rhin. .
