In the tech world, computer scientist Jürgen Schmidhuber is called the “father of modern AI”. When he recently gave a guest lecture at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich for the Munich Center for Machine Learning held, it was one of those academic rock star performances with a full hall, cheers and queues of students. The 60-year-old from Munich has been working at the Istituto Dalle Molle di Studi sull’Intelligenza Artificiale in Lugano since 1995 and for the past two years at the international science center KAUST in Saudi Arabia. However, he made his major developments at the Technical University of Munich.
