An exhibition fights prejudice against Roma

A unique exhibition, designed with people from these communities to get to know them better and thus fight against received ideas. Until September 4, the Mucem in Marseille highlights the history of the Romani populations of Europe, the largest minority on the Old Continent.

In “Barvalo”, which means “rich” but also “proud” in the Romani language, 200 works present journeys and portraits of Roma, Sinti, Manouches, Gypsies and other travellers. A journey often strewn with stigma, even today. The exhibition also ends with “the gadjo museum”, a fictional museum that caricatures sedentary people, thus immersing them in the feelings of these communities, victims of received ideas and prejudices.
