The San Francisco 49ers with quarterback Brock Purdy have in the NFL surprisingly lost for the first time this season.

After five wins in a row, the Super Bowl candidate lost 17:19 to the Cleveland Browns, who also played without their ailing regular playmaker Deshaun Watson. A field goal attempt by the 49ers from 41 yards with nine seconds left missed the target and sealed the unexpected setback.

The man of the day for Cleveland was kicker Dustin Hopkins, who scored a total of 13 points for his team with four converted field goals and an extra point. It was only the Browns’ second win this season.

The 49ers initially had the game under control and led 10:0 and 17:13, but then had bad luck with two questionable decisions by the referees in the last quarter of the game. The only undefeated team in the NFL is initially the Philadelphia Eagles, who played against the New York Jets in the afternoon.
