Numerous streaming services have been entering the market for a while now. How much do the individual subscriptions currently cost and how much would they all cost together?

If you want to watch the upcoming “Bridgerton” season, the new “Fallout” series and the cinema hit “Barbie” in the “flat rate” stream, you have to get subscriptions from three streaming providers. If other desired titles are added, film and series fans quickly have to purchase packages for more Book streaming services. After a recent price increase at Netflix, the question arises as to how expensive the fun actually is. An overview of the current prices of the largest providers in Germany – and how much they would cost together.

Netflix

Netflix continues to be one of the top streaming services – and in most cases its offering is now available at a higher price than it was a short time ago. There are currently three variants available for new customers to choose from. A standard subscription financed by advertising remains at 4.99 euros per month for the time being, the standard subscription without advertising is now 13.99 euros per month and the premium model has recently even been charged 19.99 euros per month. A basic subscription that can no longer be booked by new or returning customers costs 9.99 euros (instead of 7.99 euros). Anyone who would like to book so-called additional membership places in the standard and premium subscriptions so that friends or family members can also take a look at another location pays an additional 4.99 euros per month per place.

Amazon Prime Video

Amazon Prime Video also indirectly increased its price not long ago, because if you have a Prime membership and want to see content without advertising, you have to pay extra. In January 2024, customers were informed by email that titles on Prime Video will contain advertising from February 5th. But there is also “a new ad-free option for an additional 2.99 euros per month”. The Prime subscription itself currently costs either 8.99 euros per month or 89.90 euros annually, depending on the option selected. The subscription is free for students and trainees for six months, after which membership is available for a 50 percent discount. The reduced price also applies to customers who are exempt from the broadcasting fee obligation – or those with a social pass from participating cities.

Disney+

Like Netflix, the Disney+ streaming service is currently available in three versions. A standard subscription with advertising costs 5.99 euros per month. If you want to do without advertising, you have to pay 8.99 euros per month or 89.90 euros annually for the standard package. The premium version costs 119.90 euros per year or 11.99 euros per month. Like Netflix, the packages offer different functions. No downloads are allowed in the ad-financed subscription, but they are in the other two. All services provide an overview of the scope of the different offerings on their websites.

Apple TV+

Apple’s iPhone makers have also been involved in the streaming market for some time. Apple TV+ wants to score points with numerous originals and can be used free of charge for three months after purchasing many of the tech giant’s products. There is also a seven-day trial subscription. The regular monthly price is currently 9.99 euros.

Wow

Wow from Sky Deutschland offers different models for those interested. According to information on the service’s website, there is currently a “Films & Series” monthly subscription for 9.98 euros per month or a corresponding annual subscription for 5.98 euros per month, the cost of which also increases to 9.98 from the 13th month increase euros. “Wow Premium” can also be booked – for five euros per month after a free one-week test phase. There are also other models such as a “Films, Series & Live Sports” subscription. In this case, the annual subscription costs 34.97 euros per month, from the 13th month onwards 44.97 euros.

Paramount+

Things get much easier again with Paramount+. After a seven-day trial period, access for new customers currently costs 7.99 euros per month. Alternatively, Paramount+ is also available as a channel on Prime Video for 7.99 euros per month (after a one-week trial period).

RTL+ and Joyn

The German TV channels also want a piece of the cake. In addition to a free basic offering, RTL+ offers, among other things, access to series, films, reality formats and live content as well as music, depending on the subscription variant. There are currently three payment models – Premium for 8.99 euros per month, Max for 12.99 euros per month and a family package for 18.99 euros per month. At Joyn – from competitor ProSiebenSat.1 – the basic offer is also free, but the full range is only available for a fee. Joyn Plus+ is currently 6.99 euros per month.

Bottom line

It is not possible to give a fixed, total amount for all the providers mentioned due to the numerous different subscription options. For example, if you want to treat yourself to premium subscriptions to Disney+ and Netflix as well as a Prime membership without advertising at the same time, the cost is around 44 euros without discounts or additional options for monthly subscriptions.

If film and series fans who are satisfied with the cheapest alternatives (excluding annual subscriptions, additional options, free offers, etc.) want to have a subscription to all of them at the same time, they will have to pay over 60 euros per month. In many cases, customers then have to put up with advertising, poorer image quality and the like.
