Streaming service launched in Germany

Anyone who has nothing against advertising can now watch films and series for free in Germany on Amazon’s new streaming service Freevee.
Amazon has expanded its range: In addition to Amazon Prime Video, the streaming service Amazon Freevee is now available in Germany. Although users can access it for free, the service is advertising-supported.
Viewers can find the content via the Prime Video app or via browser on the shipping giant’s website. According to a message from Amazon, a separate app for the company’s own Fire TV devices is to be released in the coming days. You also need an Amazon account to view it, but you don’t need a Prime membership.
Nine minutes of advertising
Christian Hoeweler, head of Amazon Freevee Germany, explained in an interview with “Blickpunkt: Film” that advertising depends on how many hours a customer looks. It should be nine minutes per hour.
On offer is a mix of Freevee Original content, additional series and movies, and live channels. This makes the service new competition for other providers such as Netflix or Disney+. The originals include “Bosch: Legacy”, an offshoot of the crime series “Bosch”, as well as the documentary series “Bug Out” and “Luke Bryan: My Dirt Road Diary” about the US country star. More content is to follow gradually, including the series “Jump” on August 19, which is about the criminal Jack, who is released from prison after more than twenty years in prison during the corona lockdown.
The program includes well-known series such as “Penny Dreadful”, “Parks and Recreation” and “2 Broke Girls”. In addition, viewers will find films from a wide variety of genres – such as the comedy “The Centenarian Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared”, the sci-fi action “Kin” or the thriller “Colonia Dignidad” with Daniel Brühl (44) and Emma Watson (32).
Prime is getting more expensive
It was first announced in April that Amazon would also like to bring the free offer to Germany. This was previously available in the US and UK. The group also recently announced that Prime memberships, which include the Amazon Prime Video streaming service, are becoming more expensive. From September 15, the subscription will cost EUR 7.99 per month or EUR 89.90 per year. If you are not yet a customer, you can take advantage of at least a free trial period of 30 days.
