He is a legend of German folk music and hits, having become famous alongside Roy Black and Mike Oldfield. Now Heino and Anita Hegerland are going on tour together.

Folk and pop musicians Heino swaps the stage for the altar again. Unlike last year, this time he is going on a church tour accompanied by the Norwegian soprano Anita Hegerland, who sang a famous duet with Roy Black as a child and later sang two world hits with Mike Oldfield.

“I always had the idea of singing in churches, I come from a very Catholic family,” said the 84-year-old in Dresden. His grandfather played the organ in Cologne Cathedral, two cousins became pastors and he went to church almost every day when he was young.

Classic songs

Heino will sing classical songs, sacred music and melodies by Mozart, Schubert, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven and Brahms in houses of worship. From November 17th to January 21st, 2024, a total of 23 concerts are planned in churches, cathedrals and basilicas in Germany, Austria, Belgium and Italy under the heading “The Heavens Glory”.

Heino and Hegerland met on various TV shows in the 1970s, but then lost touch. It wasn’t until this summer, on Roy Black’s 80th birthday, that they met again – and agreed to work together. “It was always so nice to meet Heino,” Hegerland remembered. He also wrote her an autograph at the time. “Of course I was always jealous when you came with Roy,” said Heino. “We’re making him jealous now.” Roy Black died in 1991.

Heino and Hegerland sing together and solo, the Norwegian also contributes “A little Peace” by Nicole. In the current world situation, “you need songs like this,” said the 62-year-old. The two are accompanied by organist Franz Lambert, a choir and a pianist.
