As of: 07/16/2022 7:26 p.m

Due to the start of the holiday season in Lower Saxony, there were also significant obstructions on the north motorways on Saturday. The A1 and A7 were particularly affected.

On Autobahn 1, northbound traffic was backed up in several places. In Lower Saxony At times nothing went between Bramsche and Holdorf over a length of ten kilometers. Traffic also stopped between the Stuhr triangle and Bremen-Hemelingen. In Schleswig Holstein there were repeated delays on the route from the island of Fehmarn in the direction of Lübeck. The section between Neustadt-Pelzerhaken and Pansdorf was a bottleneck, it was also tight on the B207 between Heiligenhafen-Ost and the Fehmarnsund Bridge and between Bad Oldesloe and the Lübeck junction. There was a lot of traffic around Hamburgespecially between the Maschener Kreuz and the Norderelbe triangle.

Traffic jams also on the A2, A7 and A31

A lot of patience was also required on the A7. At times, traffic between Warder and Rendsburg-Büdelsdorf in the direction of Flensburg came to a standstill. Slow-moving traffic between the Walsrode and Soltau-Ost triangle and between Hamburg-Hausbruch and Hamburg-Othmarschen repeatedly slowed down holidaymakers. This also applied to the A31, where there were up to nine kilometers of traffic jams at the Ems tunnel in the direction of Leer. At the Wischhafen-Glückstadt Elbe ferry, the waiting time was up to two hours in the direction of Glückstadt and one hour in the direction of Wischhafen. On the A2 in the direction of Berlin, traffic between Peine-Ost and Kreuz Braunschweig-Nord stopped again and again until the early afternoon. In the late afternoon, the traffic situation on the motorways and federal highways eased, with a few exceptions, travelers in the north were able to travel freely again. The ADAC also expects traffic jams on Sunday afternoon. The NDR Verkehrsstudio provides the latest traffic reports for the north.

Lots of traffic jams already on Friday

With the start of the holidays, there was already an increase in traffic on Friday afternoon, especially on the Hamburg motorways. The A1 and A7 were particularly affected in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein. In Lower Saxony, a lot of patience was required on the A27 Bremen in the direction of Walsrode between Verden-Ost and Walsrode-West.

Several construction sites impede driving on the A7

On the A1 and A7, construction sites are causing additional obstructions. On the A1, work is being done on the Weser Bridge in the Bremen area and in the Oldenburger Münsterland. The A7 has been expanded between Seesen and Northeim for five years now, and this summer too. There is also construction work going on a little further north between the Salzgitter triangle and Hildesheim. The construction site between Bispingen and Soltau-Ost is a bottleneck.

Night construction site on the A7 between Bispingen and Seevetal

Anyone who wants to be smart and wants to drive at night is in danger of falling into the next trap: there is a night construction site on the A7 between Bispingen and Seevetal-Ramelsloh until July 30th. According to the ADAC, the times when trips were the most relaxed, particularly on weekends, especially on Sundays, are over. If you can, you should travel on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. If you have to drive at the weekend, you should do so on Friday mornings or late evenings, or early mornings or late evenings on weekends.

Always there: The left hand shows where the emergency lane is formed.

Accidents often cause traffic jams. To ensure that the emergency services can get to the scene of the accident as quickly as possible, drivers are obliged to form a rescue lane. The German Red Cross (DRK) interviewed 96 rescue teams in several federal states. The result: A rescue lane was formed spontaneously in just under 16 percent of the evaluated operations. When it comes to human lives, however, every minute counts. A simple trick to remember how the rescue lane is formed correctly: With the open left hand – palm facing up – and the number of lanes you can read where the rescue lane leads along.
