The Munich ranked sixth in the slalom in Chamonix. The Swiss Ramon Zenhauser celebrated his fifth World Cup victory. The Greek AJ Ginnis was surprisingly second in front of Zenhäusen’s compatriot Daniel Yule. Leading at halftime, Olympic champion Clement Noel retired from his home race. Other top drivers like the Norwegian Henrik Kristoffersen or the Swiss Loic Meillard did not finish either.

“Cool race, nice weather, amazing track,” said Straßer of ARD. After merging early in the previous slalom in Schladming, the 30-year-old took a little less risk in the first run this time. “In the second I tried to attack more, which I basically did quite well,” he explained. “I’m fully involved and looking forward to the World Cup.” The title fights in Courchevel and Méribel start on Monday.

Straßer’s teammate Alexander Schmid, who surprisingly finished tenth after a strong first run in Chamonix, dropped out in the second run shortly before the finish. David Ketterer finished 22nd, Fabian Himmelsbach and Sebastian Holzmann didn’t make it into the final of the top 30.
