Alpes-de-Haute-Provence: a dike gives way in Ubaye, red flood vigilance activated

In Uvernet-Fours, this Friday evening, December 1st, a dike gave way on the left bank of Bachelard, upstream of Pont-Rouge near the bowling alley, without impacting homes. In Val d’Oronaye, heavy goods vehicles are stuck at the Col de Larche after a landslide near the hamlet of Certamussat. These are some of the events that concern Ubaye this evening.

At 5 p.m., the operational command post, coordinated by the sub-prefect of Barcelonnette, was armed: faced with bad weather, the mayors of Barcelonnette, La Condamine-Châtelard and Uvernet Fours had activated their municipal protection plan. At 8 p.m., the flood risk in Barcelonnette rose to level red. Around thirty people were evacuated from the Chabrand district threatened by an overflow of the Bachelard river and were housed at the Séolane center. “At the level of the small torrents and canals, it is overflowing everywhere, the level of the Ubaye and the Bachelard has further progressed. This evening, the situation is tense. Evacuations are not ruled out”, said Sophie Vaginay-Ricourt at 7:45 p.m., mayor of Barcelonnette.

In the La Condamine-Châtelard sector, the RD29 departmental road between La Condamine and the Sainte-Anne ski resort is closed to prevent a risk of road collapse. Around thirty people from La Condamine Châtelard were taken care of.

In the Barcelonnette sector, for prevention, the population affected by the rising waters of the Bâchelard river (around a hundred people) is being evacuated, taken care of and brought to safety by the municipal services of Barcelonnette and ‘Uvernet Fours.

La Blanche and Haut-Verdon threatened

At 8 p.m., the Prefecture mentioned an event in progress in the Ubaye, Haut-Verdon and Blanche valley sectors where several torrents presented a risk of overflowing. We learn that the prefect of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence had “armed at 6:15 p.m. the departmental operational center to coordinate and supervise rescue and security operations. The rescue and security services (45 firefighters, seven gendarmes, 13 vehicles) are currently engaged to secure the sectors and carry relief to the population.”
