Marco Reus is the center of attention at the BVB gala against Augsburg and is celebrated alone from the south stand. Completely right – says his coach, who speaks full of pathos about the club idol.

Borussia Dortmund coach Edin Terzic makes the appearance of the former captain Marco Reus was touched and commented emotionally in the 5-1 win against FC Augsburg. Terzic said he was very moved by the fact that Reus was challenged and celebrated by the fans in the south stand after the game.

“He absolutely deserves it. This is a unique story in modern football. That someone gives himself so much for a club,” said Terzic about the importance of the 34-year-old former national player for BVB.

Reus and Borussia announced on Friday that the contract would not be extended at the end of the season and that the club icon would be leaving BVB after twelve years. On Saturday, Reus played for Dortmund in the Bundesliga for the first time since March 17th and led BVB to victory with a goal and two assists. “Everything he did with the ball was top class,” said 41-year-old Terzic, who has accompanied Reus in Dortmund’s coaching team for the past six years. “I would have liked it even more to have coached him in his first six years here.”

Reus moved back to his hometown from Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2012. He had already played in the youth ranks at Borussia Dortmund for ten years. With BVB he won the DFB Cup twice, but never won the German championship. “I could talk about him for two hours now. He’s a living legend,” said Terzic, whose voice kept faltering as he spoke. “Unfortunately, I don’t have a stopwatch or a remote control that prevents him from turning 35 at the end of the month,” said the BVB coach, explaining the reasons for Reus’s departure, as he still wants to continue playing abroad.
