Almost 34,000 corona cases: the highest number of new infections reported

Status: 04.11.2021 6:58 a.m.

With almost 34,000 new corona infections within one day, the Robert Koch Institute has registered a new high for Germany. However, it is not yet clear what role the All Saints holiday will play in the increase.

The number of new corona infections has reached a new high in Germany. Within one day there were 33,949 new corona cases, as the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) announced. That was 172 infections more than on December 18, the day of the last recorded high.

So far, however, it is unclear to what extent the All Saints holiday on Monday played a role in the development of the numbers in five federal states.

Seven-day incidence increased to 154.5

A week ago, the value was 28,037 infections. The previous high of the third wave of infections was 29,518 on April 22nd. According to the RKI, the nationwide seven-day incidence was 154.5. The previous day the value was 146.6, a week ago it was 130.2.

According to the RKI, 4,672,368 people have been infected with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, however, since many infections are not recognized.

126 deaths within one day

According to the new information, 165 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours. A week ago it was 126. The number of people who have died of or involving a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic rose to 96,192.

The number of corona patients admitted to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days – the most important parameter for a possible tightening of the corona restrictions – was given by the RKI on Wednesday at 3.62 (Tuesday: 3.29). The value must take into account that hospital admissions are sometimes reported with delay.

Around 4.3 million recovered

A nationwide threshold value from when the situation can be viewed critically is not provided for the incidence of hospitalization, among other things because of large regional differences. The previous high was around 15.5 around Christmas time. The RKI stated the number of those who had recovered at 4,328,400.
