Care: What to do if the parents don’t want to go to a nursing home?

The elderly parents want to live in their own home for as long as possible. The adult son tries to make the care possible: he takes care of assistance, stair lifts and doctor’s bills. But soon the two seniors can no longer cope at home – and the fight for two places in the home begins.

There was a time when Klaus Biller* was startled when he saw his father’s number on his cell phone. What was going on now? Did the father have an argument with the nursing assistant? Had the mother fallen down the damn stairs? Klaus Biller, a friendly man in his mid-50s, married, likes his parents. He lives in Berlin and works for a start-up. When he tells how his parents became care cases, he says: “At times it was telephone terror.”
