Allegro Packets x310, x410 and x510: New hardware for network analysis

Allegro Packets manufactures network traffic recording and analysis hardware for the server rack. With the new appliances x310, x410 and x510, the manufacturer has now introduced the successors to the x300, x400 and x500 series. The people from Leipzig are thus turning several optimization screws at the same time: Increased data acquisition speeds, expanded storage capacities and faster and larger SSD storage. The maximum RAM capacity has been increased by 50 percent compared to its predecessors and the data acquisition performance by 60 to 100 percent. All models can handle up to four million simultaneous connections.

Each of the x310, x410 and x510 series is available in four different versions. The x310 with the components 1310, 3310, 5310 and 7310 only require one height unit. The RAM configuration starts at 192 GB and ends at 6144 GB. This represents an important factor for the scaling of the components, since they work with an in-memory database. In addition, they already have two SFP+ monitoring ports as standard, which means that they can handle 10G monitoring even in the basic version. There are also options for two expansion slots and, more recently, for an additional OCP slot. The models provide ten SATA/U.2 slots for 2.5-inch SSDs for packet ring storage. The top model 7310 offers up to 120 Gbit/s analysis performance and up to 240 Gbit/s in capture-only operation, i.e. if only a recording is made in the packet ring memory. The smallest variant, the 1310 model, already offers up to 20 Gbit/s analysis and 40 Gbit/s in capture-only mode.

With the current models, Allegro Packets also supplies a new USB adapter for WiFi 6e for the WiFi analysis, which is also quite new. Allegro Packets had already supplied the adapter to existing customers free of charge.

The x410 devices require two height units in the rack and provide twelve 3.5 inch SATA3 slots. Two SFP+ ports are also included in the basic configuration. In addition, this model series offers six expansion slots plus one OCP slot. This means that a total of up to 30 SFP+ slots are available for monitoring.

If you need even more storage volume, you can switch to the x510 series, which takes up four height units for 36 SATA/SAS slots the data sheet reveals. In contrast to the x310 and x410, however, it only offers the option of up to 3072 GB of RAM. In addition, in contrast to the smaller variants, the top model only delivers 200 Gbit/s recording performance, since only four SSDs can be used in the 36 slots. They also provide space for four expansion cards, but no onboard capture ports are available. All models stand available immediately.
